Basic Photography Course

This course will cover the essentials that you need to know about your digital camera and improve the quality of your images.

Course Structure:

Session 1: Theory - Camera Basics: Focal length, exposure, ISO, shutter speed, aperture, depth of field and priority modes.

Session 2: Shoot - Using your camera.

Session 3: Shoot - Product and macro photography.

Session 4: Night Shoot - Long exposure times and fill in flash.

Session 5: Day Shoot - Shooting outdoors, lighting conditions, reflectors.

Session 6: Studio Shoot - Shooting a model in a studio environment.

What you will get out of this course:

You will have a better understanding about the settings on your camera, and have put them to the test. Better composition and improved quality of your photos. You will also have a general idea on different areas of photography while learning to use your manual settings.

Photoshop Elements 7

Photoshop Elements 7 : Photoshop Basic 1

This course will cover the ‘Organizer’ that is part of the Photoshop Elements package. This is a cataloguing program that will make it easier to find and maintain where all your photos are saved. We will cover the basic editing functions of elements, (exactly the same as ‘auto’on your camera), these are one-click corrections. Your will have the use of a PC to do all the moves yourself and find your way around Elements.

What we will cover in the course is:

  • Importing your photos into the Organizer from various sources.
  • Organising and finding your photos, this is done by tagging, rating or putting them in albums.
  • Rotating, stacking, moving and backing-up images.
  • Reviewing your photos
  • Using the ‘Fix’, ‘Quick fix’ and ‘Guided edit’ functions.
  • Crating Photo Projects. Making photo books, collages, slideshows and panoramas.

Photoshop Elements 7 : Photoshop Basic 2

This course will cover the full editing functions of Photoshop Elements 7. You will be shown the non-destructive way to edit your images. Your will have the use of a PC to do all the moves yourself and find your way around Elements. It is not compulsory to have done the Photoshop Elements Basic 1 to do this course, as it covers the Organiser part of Elements and some automatic fixes available in Elements.

What we will cover in the course is:

  • We will use the ‘Full Edit’ function. In this you will, open a file, zoom and navigate, resize and adjust resolution and saving the final image.
  • Different image file formats to work with and/or save as. (eg jpeg, tiff etc)
  • Making selections with various tools.
  • Working with layers.
  • Fixing photos. Cropping, Shadow/highlight adjustments, Adjusting with Levels and Hue/saturation and using Curves.
  • Touching up photos. Removing blemishes and content, using the Red-eye, Whiten teeth, Blue skies and Black & White tools.
  • Adding special effects. Applying filters and effects.
  • Adding text.
